Hello, and welcome to my new blog. I am an inspiring author, I primarily write
crime, horror, and science fiction (usually soft sci-fi, rather than hard SF),
but other stuff creeps in occasionally.
This blog is going to be writer’s journal/journey. I will be
posting a lot of exercises and ideas, with maybe the occasional short story or
fragment. My hope is that this blog will
both allow me to hone my writing skills and possibly even inspire some of you,
dear readers, to do some writing of your own.
The main project I am currently working on is a novella or
novelette that will serve as the centerpiece for a collection of interrelated stories.
It is set in a large mid-American city on the shores of a
large lake. The city is very urban and
has a high crime rate and a lot of corruption both within its police and within
its bureaucracy.
This first story, tentatively titled “A Voice in the Night”
follows two central characters and is a love story of sorts. Samantha Tucker and Harold Jordan begin the
narrative aware of each other – both are public figures, she is a “spoiled
little rich girl” Paris Hilton heiress type, he is a radio news reporter – but
strangers.
Rounding out the central cast are Deputy Police Chief Rebecca
Duncan – a social rival of Samantha’s and a professional contact of Harold’s –
and Samantha’s older brothers James and Josh, the President and Vice-President
of Tucker International.
These five are also among the most important characters in
the overarching story that will eventually tie all the various short stories
together.
Among my other current projects are Sci-Fi short story/murder
mystery “A Death in Space” and several horror short stories set in my fictional
locale Jasper County, both of which might also crop up from time to time.
